Fremont Street Experience Hosts 17th Annual Scott World Firefighter Combat Challenge Championship
November 11th, 2008 Categories: Downtown Las Vegas, Fremont Street Experience
WHO: The Scott World Firefighter Combat Challenge brings together more than 800 firefighters from throughout the world, including Canada and New Zealand, to compete in what’s known as the “toughest two minutes in sports.” The five-event obstacle course tests firefighters’ fitness levels and agility, while celebrating the excellence of these heroes. Teams representing Nevada include North Las Vegas Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and Sparks (Reno) Fire Department. WHAT: Fremont Street Experience will host the final stop on the 22-city national 2008 tour. This year marks the 17th Annual World Challenge, and the second appearance at Fremont Street Experience. The competition requires that firefighters wear full bunker gear and a Scott Air-Pak SCBA while completing a rigorous course comprised of five events: a five-story stair climb with a 45-pound hose, a hose hoist, forcible entry/Keiser Force Machine, a hose advance and victim rescue. Each event represents a job task specific to firefighting and truly tests each firefighter’s resilience and agility.
The World Challenge will be part of a four-part series featuring the Las Vegas finals and air on the Versus Network in January.
WHEN:
Tuesday, November 11-Thursday, November 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, November 14, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. - *Individual Finals at 4:45 p.m.
Saturday, November 15, Tandem Finals at 9 a.m.; Relay Finals at 4:00 p.m.Saturday, November 15, 9 p.m.
World Premiere of “George Thorogood & The Destroyers Bad to the Bone” Viva Vision show
NOTE FROM UNCLE JACK:
There’s always something interesting happening every weekend on Fremont Street. It’s the best free place in all of Las Vegas. We talk about urban living all the time. Art and Music and Entertainment are important aspects that are readily available and very inexpensive, especially since you don’t have to go very far if you live in Vintage Vegas!
