Las Vegas High School campus added to National Register of Historic Places

The Las Vegas High School campus, which houses the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service.

The campus covers 15 acres downtown, with a unique assortment of buildings dating back to 1930. The last major build was in 1971.

The listing recognizes the school’s architectural significance and its importance to the history of education in Las Vegas, according to the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

“The historic buildings that make up the Las Vegas High School campus are like postcards from the past, representing many different eras of architecture,” said Rebecca Palmer, administrator of the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, in a media release.

“Even more important are the school’s educational contributions to generations of Nevadans. This designation recognizes the school’s place in Nevada history and helps preserve its unique past.”

The campus’ academic building and gymnasium were previously listed on the register.
