At the core of our mission is the commitment to creating strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and ensuring quality, affordable homes for everyone.
The Importance of Homeownership
Homeownership is more than just a cornerstone of the “American dream.” It offers stability, financial security, and a primary pathway to building generational wealth. We recognize its importance and are dedicated to supporting low- and moderate-income households by tackling the racial homeownership gap, affordability issues, and the limited housing supply that put homeownership out of reach for many.
Expanding Opportunities
We are dedicated to expanding homeownership opportunities for first-time homebuyers, with a focus on low- and moderate-income households and communities of color. We aim to ensure that everyone has a fair chance of owning a home.
Closing the Racial Homeownership Gap
Addressing systemic issues that have persisted for decades is crucial. We are removing barriers to homeownership for people of color, striving to close the racial homeownership gap and promote equality in housing.
Increasing Housing Supply
To tackle the housing supply challenges, we are introducing and implementing policies and programs designed to expand the nation’s housing stock. This is essential to making homes more affordable and accessible.
Supporting Struggling Homeowners
For those facing difficulties with mortgage payments, we provide mortgage servicers with tools to help homeowners stay in their homes. Our goal is to prevent foreclosures and keep families secure.
The Role of Housing Counseling
We also recognize that housing counseling is a vital component of a successful homeownership journey. Future homebuyers and current homeowners can benefit from the guidance of HUD-certified housing counselors. Through our network of nearly 1,500 HUD-approved housing counseling agencies, we offer unbiased education and resources to assist in every step of the homeownership process.
